Ken kicked off his campaign with a motivating speech at Hucapoos on Tybee Island on September 10, 2023. Following the end of his speech he set off on his walk across Georgia.
He had two main goals in mind for his second physically-challenging campaign initiative: He wanted to raise awareness for veteran homelessness and he wanted to meet the incredible citizens of Georgia.
He spent just under two weeks walking across the state of Georgia -- all the way to the steps of the Capitol. Carrying only what he could fit in a 60-pound ruck sack, he slept at gas stations, churches, and even parking lots along the way.
The kind citizens in the little towns he passed through showed Ken an abundance of love by bringing him food, water, and on many occasions offering him rides.
With bandaids and gas station snacks in hand, Ken politiely denied the rides and continued pushing on.
His unique campaign initiative undoubtedly allowed him the oppotunity to raise awareness for The American Legion and veteran homelessness.
With more than 300 miles logged, he arrived at the capitol on September 22, 2023.
On September 26, 2023 Ken followed through with his promise to donate half of the campaign funds he raised and wrote a check for over $2500 to the American Legion in Statesboro, Georgia.
Ken is anything other than a regular politician. He wrapped up his journey from Tybee Island to Atlanta on a Friday and was back to work at Hucapoos on the following Monday. Yes, that's right, he took two days off of work before jumping right back into things.
You see, Ken is much more than a normal politician. He lives like you and I. He works like you and I. He doesn't want to be a normal politician that loses touch with the people that they serve. He doesn't want to sit on a high horse and pretend to be any better than anyone else.
Even with all of the outpouring of love that Ken recieved, we won't shy away from admitting that he was met with the first disgusting repercussion of being a political candidate. When Ken arrived back in Savannah he was met with both right tires slashed and the right side of his car keyed.
Ken won't let the naysayers dim his light. He will continue to raise awareness for his campaign through physically tough challenges where he donates half of his proceeds to nonprofits.
His passion and comitment towards being one with the people is unmatched. Ken will undoubtedly make an incredible Governor for the state of Georgia.
